About Us
Seafood New Zealand, a subsidiary of the New Zealand Seafood Industry Council, is owned by every quota owner, license holder and registered commercial fishing vessel owner in New Zealand, including the major players such as Sealord, Talleys, Sanford and Amaltal. Thus it is published by as well as for the industry.
The aim of the magazine is to reflect issues which have an impact on the industry, provide an outlet for industry concerns and opinions, and to offer content that is just a good read for its subscribers.
And because Seafood New Zealand is a direct descendent of a magazine called New Zealand Professional Fisherman, much of its content is inspired by and directly aimed at the harvesters of this important primary resource. As a result, the magazine features the personalities, the boats and the businesses of the industry in its pages every month.
Commercial seafood production in the 21st century is not, of course, restricted to wild catch fisheries. Aquaculture and marine farming is a growing element of the overall seafood industry, and this is also reflected in the pages of Seafood New Zealand: The magazine feature a quarterly insert dedicated solely to aquaculture.
The magazine itself is run as part of the New Zealand Seafood Industry Council communications group, and is edited by Sid Pickering. He is always keen to hear from those who have a stake in the industry, whether to comment on the content of the magazine or to offer ideas for future news and features.
The popular Drop A Line column is a forum which is open to almost anyone who has almost anything to say about the state of the industry. Past columns have resulted in lively exchanges on the Letters to the Editor page, and we always welcome letters.
